On April 25, the Supreme Court ordered 25,752 school employees to reappear for the examinations for anyone wishing to return to work after they were restricted for engaging in fraudulent actions to get a permanent position.
Teachers have a moral obligation to teach, according to an article in The Times of India newspaper, but what was shocking was that the teachers were employed as permanent staff members in exchange for bribes despite their inability to read or write basic English.
Why this issue?
In India many people are unskilled when it comes to English speaking or personality development. Teachers should have good teaching skills with different teaching methodologies, identifying students who need our guidance more than others and even being prepared for their lessons with resources. A teacher’s sole duty is to keep learning and upgrading herself with changing patterns and requirements but 70% of them just complete a B.ed or a D.ed degree and join schools to teach for money. Many teachers are not sufficient to clear the TET or CTET exam too.
They can’t even read, write or speak basic English even. Teachers don’t know to use tech in a better way. Many can’t plan their yearly ,monthly or weekly planner to complete syllabus in a timely manner.
What can be done?
- Firstly teachers should be hired on the basis of their skills and then degree. Teachers should be provided training twice a year.
- Every teacher should be checked for lesson planning, teaching, explaining skills, critical thinking and creativity also.
- They should be taught the use of tech and AI to keep students engaged even after school. It should be made mandatory to speak in English only within the premises.
- Also they should be trained on counseling and focusing on students who are weak.
To sum up, accordingly the court has ordered teachers who want their job back have to clear the exam orelse they can’t join.
